Have you ever wondered how old the building you live in is? What about the age of buildings around you?
I’m very happy to announce that my first project using MapBox (and TileMill) has received generous hosting support from Smart Chicago Collaborative and I have since upgraded the old map in a few ways:
- Higher zoom level, enabling you to zoom further in to see more detail;
- Geolocation, so you can find your location on the map;
- Support for mobile devices like the iPhone
The Chicago Building Age Map allows you to click to filter out the years of building (by pre-1900, 1900-1949, 1950-1999, and 2000-today). Roll over a building to see the address and year of construction. Please note that not all data is available; the data is provided from the City of Chicago.
I fully plan on working in more upgrades, including address search, better rendering of street names, filling in the unavailable data, and more. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
